Frequently Asked Questions

  • You do not require a doctor’s referral to start working with us; however, your health insurance provider may require a referral in order for you to access your coverage. Please check with your health insurance provider to see if a referral is required.

  • Prospective clients are welcome to schedule a free 20-minute consultation. Give us a call or fill out the Contact Us form to book your consultation today.

The initial assessment is a 90-minute appointment and billed at $337.50.

50-minute appointments are billed at $225.

25-minute appointments are billed at $112.50

Please note that there may be additional fees for the completion of forms, letters, and reports. Please get in touch with our office to discuss these fees.

  • Psychological services are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP); however, these services are covered by many benefits providers.

Through the Jane practice management system, we can facilitate direct billing to many insurance companies, including but not limited to:

    Blue Cross

    Canada Life

    Desjardins

    Green Shield

    Manulife

Please note that the client is responsible for paying any remaining balance if the fee is not fully covered by insurance. If you have questions or are unsure whether we may accept your insurance, please give us a call.

  • Clients are welcome to upload their credit card information to the secured Jane platform for contact-free billing. Alternatively, clients are welcome to pay in-person at their appointments using the point of sale terminal. Currently, we accept cash, Debit, Visa, and Mastercard payments. We do not accept American Express or e-transfers.

  • A psychodiagnostic assessment is used to determine if an individual’s reported symptoms or difficulties are indicative of an underlying mental health condition, like a depressive disorder or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), for example. Unlike a psychoeducational assessment, psychodiagnostic assessments do not necessarily examine an individual's cognitive and academic abilities and may not meet the requirements from educational institutions to receive academic accommodations, like extra time on tests due to difficulties with focus.

A psychoeducational assessment examines how an individual learns and processes information. Personal strengths and weaknesses are identified, as well as any difficulties in learning, such as an undiagnosed learning disorder or ADHD. Psychoeducational assessments are sometimes required by academic institutions in order to determine the most appropriate supports and accommodations for a particular student, such as extra time to complete tests due to difficulties with focus.

Thus, if you are still in school, or looking to pursue further education, and you have concerns about your academic performance, or think you may need academic accommodations, a psychoeducational assessment is recommended. Please be advised that we do not currently offer psychoeducational assessments.

  • Cancellations that occur within less than 24 hours of the scheduled appointment will be billed the full session fee, except under extenuating circumstances. Please note that insurance companies do not reimburse for cancellations and missed appointments.

  • We understand that from time to time we all run late. When this happens, please give us a call to let us know that you are still attending your appointment. Your appointment will be held for the duration of time that it was scheduled and any remaining time will be honoured.

  • No. Registered Psychologists are only able to provide therapeutic services in jurisdictions where they hold current registration. Services are rendered where the client is located, not where the psychologist is located. Our clinicians may only provide services to adolescents and adults residing and located in Ontario.

If you plan to travel during your therapy program, please speak with your clinician about your travel plans so that appropriate plans can be made.

  • Trillium Wellness & Psychological Services is not able to provide emergency mental health services. If you are an existing client and need to move up your appointment, please get in touch with the office and you will be seen as soon as possible.
